Chelsea are interested in signing Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella.
According to La Nuova Sardegna, the most reputable paper in Sardinia, Chelsea are expected to make an offer for Barella if they hire Maurizio Sarri as their new manager, as expected.
Sarri will apparently ask Roman Abramovic to make an offer to sign the 21-year-old as and when he arrives at Stamford Bridge, although they’ll face competition from Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp is said to be a fan of the midfielder and he too is considering making a bid.
However, Cagliari have apparently put an asking price of €40m on the Italian U21 international, and it’s difficult to see either Chelsea or Liverpool paying such a large amount for a relatively unproven player.
Barella has only broken into the Cagliari team in the last couple of years, making 35 appearances last year and 30 the year before, so whether anyone will be willing to pay such an amount remains to be seen.
