Chelsea ready to meet release clause of Kostas Manolas

Chelsea are interested in signing AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas and are prepared to pay his €36m release clause, according to reports in Italy.

The reports suggest that Chelsea are looking to overhaul their defensive options this summer and as such, they’re willing to pay Manolas over €3 million per season to play at Stamford Bridge.

Most news outlets are reporting that Maurizio Sarri will be named as the new Chelsea manager some time in the next couple of days and that it is he who has been helping identify transfer targets.

One of the players on his shortlist seems to be Greek international Manolas, who has been at Roma since 2014.

He’s pretty much been an ever-present in the Roma side since his arrival, so the Serie A side won’t want him to leave, but they can do little to prevent him going if Chelsea match his release clause.

Napoli’s and Juventus’ Daniele Rugani are also being linked with Chelsea, so it remains which defender, if any, the club bring in this summer.
