Martusciello rejects chance to join Sarri’s coaching staff

Giovanni Martusciello, who is currently the technical collaborator of Inter Milan, has reportedly turned down the chance to join Maurizio Sarri’s coaching staff at Chelsea.

Sarri’s appointment at Stamford Bridge is imminent now and it’s believed that the Italian has begun building his backroom staff ahead of his first season in English football.

Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola is expected to be Sarri’s right-hand man at the club but according to Sky Italia, as cited in a report from Calciomercato, the Blues had approached Martusciello to gauge his interest in joining the club.

The 46-year-old managed Empoli in the 2016/17 season but could not do enough to prevent the Italian minnows from succumbing to relegation from Serie A.

Martusciello worked under Sarri as an assistant manager at Empoli and it seems as though he had the chance to reunite with his former colleague at Chelsea for the foreseeable future.

However, Martusciello has pledged his allegiances to Inter Milan and will seemingly continue to work alongside Luciano Spalletti at San Siro as the club’s technical collaborator.
