The Belgian was a key figure in Sarri’s Napoli side and it was the new Chelsea boss who played a key role in helping to transform Mertens into a central striker.

The Italian had reportedly hoped to utilise Mertens on the right of a 4-3-3 at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are looking to improve in the final third and are also being linked with moves for the likes of Gonzalo Higuain.
