Chelsea have reportedly made a huge bid for Juventus defender Mattia Caldara.
It’s believed that the Blues have recently cooled their interest in Caldara’s teammate, Daniele Rugani, with a deal for the player proving to be difficult for the club to secure.
Caldara, though, has emerged as a genuine target for Chelsea this summer and according to reports from Italy, as cited by talkSPORT, a bid worth £40 million has been submitted by Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Chelsea want to sign a new central defender this summer and Rugani was understood to be their primary target. However, they appear to have lost patience in their pursuit of the Italian international and have turned their attention to a move for Caldara.
It’s reported that Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia staged a meeting in Nice recently with Juventus officials to discuss respective deals for Rugani and Caldara.
According to the aforementioned reports, Chelsea opted to lodge a bid worth £40m for the defender, who is being tipped for big things in Italy.
