Giroud ready to fight for his place at Chelsea

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is ready to fight for his place at Stamford Bridge, despite recent talks with Marseille over a potential move, according to the Daily Mail.

The Frenchman lead the line for France at the World Cup but struggled to hold down a consistent start spot for Chelsea last season.

The striker is yet to join back up with his Chelsea teammates after helping his country to it’s second World Cup triumph, but the striker has decided to stay and fight for his place.

Giroud only joined Chelsea in January from Arsenal and it is unclear where he fits into Maurizio Sarri’s plans for the new season.

The Frenchman’s opportunities at Stamford Bridge could be even more limited if Sarri completes a deal for Gonzalo Higuain.

Marseille had taken an interest in Giroud and held talks with the striker last month. The French side had grown frustrated with their negotiations for Nice striker Mario Balotelli, so turned to the World Cup winner.

Atletico Madrid have also shown an interest in Giroud, but only on loan. This deal was something that didn’t interest Chelsea at all.
