Chelsea player ratings: Lyon (H)

Chelsea’s last pre-season game petered out with a 0-0 draw at home to Lyon in front of just 18,000 people, with the hosts coming away with the spoils following a 5-4 penalty shootout win.

A heavily rotated side put in the final preparations before their Premier League season kicks off away to Huddersfield.

There were starts and substitute appearance for the remaining World Cup players, with Eden Hazard and Ruben Loftus-Cheek gaining valuable minutes.

Here is how we rated the players.

Marcin Bulka – 6, looks very confident and composed for someone so young.

Davide Zappacosta – 6, got forward well and dealt with the tricky Depay.

Andreas Christensen – 6.5, for the most part, stood his ground and impressed at the back.

Ethan Ampadu – 7.5, plays beyond his years, so confident. Formed a decent partnership with Christensen.

Emerson – 7, offers a lot more than Alonso going forward. You have to wonder if he is better suited to the role going forward.

Danny Drinkwater – 6, very busy in midfield, few nice touches and tackles.

Tiemoue Bakayoko – 4, barely got involved during the first half, not going to stop speculation about his future.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 6, slow starter, couple of decent runs. Got better as the game went on, should have scored when he went to chip Lopes.

Victor Moses – 5, started in a more advanced role again and he just did not get involved.

Willian – 6.5, bright on the ball, a few heavy touches but looked positive. Came close with a free kick late in the first half.

Tammy Abraham – 6, desperate to score, lots of movement but unable to find the back of the net.

Substitutes

Ross Barkley – 6, had a couple of chances at goal but failed to make them count.

Jorginho – 6.5, came on and made an instant impact. Always looking forward, trying to be positive.

N’Golo Kante – 6, got forward well in a more advanced role.

Eden Hazard – 6, a few bright moments with clever turns and dribbles. Best yet to come from him in a few weeks’ time.

Olivier Giroud – 5, made little to no impact late on with no service in the final third.

Lucas Piazon – 6, to his credit, looked like one of the more lively substitutes with lots of energy.

Marcos Alonso – 6, got forward well and tried to make things happen on the ball.

Antonio Rudiger – 5, was not tested too much in the final stages.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 6, provided a nice burst of energy in the final moments but not much to write home about.

Gary Cahill – 5, like Rudiger, he came on and saw the game pass him by.

Rob Green – 6, good for him to come off the bench and get some minutes in a Chelsea shirt.
