Athletic Bilbao have confirmed that Kepa Arrizabalaga’s release clause has been met as he closes in on a move to Chelsea.
The La Liga outfit confirmed the news via their official club website, with the player expected to travel to London later today.
The Spanish goalkeeper is likely to sign a five-year deal in London, replacing Thibaut Courtois as Chelsea’s number one.
Kepa is due to become the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, with the deal to join Chelsea worth a reported €80 million, eclipsing the deal that saw former Blues target Alisson join Liverpool from Roma.
Chelsea have been forced to act quickly to replace Courtois, who has refused to return to training as he pushes for a move to Real Madrid.
The Blues were keen to get a replacement signed before allowing the Belgian to leave the club.
He has angled for a return to Spain for some time and he now looks set to get his move.
