Drinkwater hoping to stay at Chelsea

West Ham, Everton and Leicester have been dealt a blow with the news that Danny Drinkwater wants to remain at Chelsea this summer.

Simon Johnson of the London Evening Standard reports that the player has spoken to Maurizio Sarri and he is aware of his position within the Chelsea squad.

Johnson claims that Drinkwater remains hopeful of proving his worth to the new Italian head coach.

Drinkwater has fallen out of favour following the arrivals of both Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek has also returned to the club following his loan spell at Crystal Palace.

It had been suggested that the player could leave the club on loan before the new season kicks off as he goes in search of regular game time.

Drinkwater only joined the club back in January in a big-money deal but has struggled to hold down a place in the Blues side.
