Joao Mario denies claims he rejected a move to Chelsea
West Ham and Tottenham target Joao Mario has been forced to deny claims that he rejected a move to Chelsea this summer because of Maurizio Sarri.
Reports emerging out of Italy late in the transfer window from FCInterNews claimed that the player had been offered to the Blues, but turned down a move to Stamford Bridge.
It had been claimed that the rejection was due to the new Italian head coach, but Mario took to Twitter, as reported by Calciomercato, to deny these claims.
Twitter: Ma c’è qualcuno che crede che questo è vero ? immaginazione si, ma questo è troppo. https://t.co/sZDUS777w8 (@joaome17)
The tweet roughly translates to: “But is there anyone who believes that this is true? imagination yes, but this is too much.”
Mario was heavily linked with a move back to the Premier League throughout the summer, with West Ham and Tottenham expressing an interest in the Portuguese international.
He is once again expected to leave Inter before the closing of the European transfer window, with the Italians hoping to cash in on the player.
A loan move away from the San Siro appears more likely, with Sevilla and Sporting both interested in the player.
