Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak reportedly rejected the opportunity of a summer switch to Stamford Bridge and was rewarded with an improved salary by the Spanish club, according to the Times.
The Slovenian international, who has been named in La Liga’s team of the season twice in the last three campaigns, was a target for the Blues, however, due to the fact Chelsea aren’t in the Champions League, Oblak decided to stay put in Madrid.

The 25-year-old has a €100 million release clause, which Chelsea were willing to match, but ended up signing Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga for a fee in the region of £71 million instead to replace former stopper Thibaut Courtois who joined Real Madrid.
Oblak was personally rewarded by the La Liga side for staying put, in the shape of an improved salary.
So with Chelsea replacing Courtois before the end of the summer window with Arrizabalaga and Oblak gaining an improved salary, it seems that all parties are happy with the outcome.
