According to a report from the Telegraph, Chelsea are looking to step up their pursuit of a new technical director following Michael Emenalo’s departure last year, with Roma’s Monchi among the options under consideration.
The Blues saw Emenalo depart from his role in November and have since been without an established technical director. Marina Granovskaia has deputised in the role but now plans are in place for Chelsea to push on and appoint a permanent replacement.
It’s believed that Chelsea had brought a halt to their pursuit of a new technical director this summer as they looked to secure the services of a new manager.
With Maurizio Sarri now having settled in at Stamford Bridge, it’s claimed by the Telegraph that the process of identifying and recruiting a new technical director is now underway.
Dan Ashworth, who is currently the FA’s technical director, is stated to be an option for Chelsea. Ashworth is claimed by the Telegraph to also be interested by the prospect of returning to the club.
Former Chelsea players Juliano Belletti and Michael Ballack – who has been previously linked with the role – are also stated as potential avenues for the Blues’ top brass to explore.
Monchi, though, would appear to be a lucrative option for Chelsea following his exploits at Sevilla and now Roma. The director has established himself as one of the most impressive candidates in his field and has previously attracted interest from Manchester United.
It’s also claimed that, if Sarri is able to influence the decision made by Chelsea’s hierarchy, he would be keen to work alongside a technical director who is able to speak his native Italian.
