Atletico and Real battle it out for Alonso
La Liga duo Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will reportedly battle it out for the signature of Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso.
AS claims that both clubs are interested in the defender, as they go in search of potential first-team replacements.
Atletico have been forced to evaluate their options after Filipe Luis attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
The club had not anticipated a sale, but the Brazilian could be on the move and Diego Simeone’s men have identified Alonso as an ideal replacement.
Interestingly, the report claims that Real could look to bring him as cover for both the left-back and centre-back position.
There have been concerns about Alonso’s long-term future at Chelsea following Maurizio Sarri’s decision to revert to a back four at Stamford Bridge.
Alonso excelled under Antonio Conte in a three-back system, while being played as an attacking wing-back.
The Spaniard has started the new season well, scoring the winner against Arsenal over the weekend, but has previously looked suspect when playing as an out-and-out left-back.
