Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez reportedly rejected the chance to join Chelsea this summer.
According to Helena Condis at Cope, Chelsea had tried to sign him with Maurizio Sarri a fan of the player.
The new Chelsea head coach tried to sign Suarez whilst in charge of Napoli but was unable to seal a deal.
Suarez rejected a move away from the club as he wanted to remain at Barcelona and fight for his place.
The La Liga champions were known to be cutting down both their wage bill and squad over the summer.
A number of fringe players including Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes all left the club for the Premier League, but Suarez opted to stay put.
The former Manchester City youngster joined Barcelona back in 2016 from Villarreal and has found chances limited during his time at the Nou Camp, making 44 appearances in La Liga over the course of two seasons.
