Chelsea turned down chance to sign Fekir, Lyon president reveals

Chelsea spurned the chance to sign Nabil Fekir, according to Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas.

The Frenchman had been linked to Liverpool this summer, with a deal agreed and contract signed before concerns about the midfielder’s knee stalled the deal at the final hurdle.

The Blues were reported to have been monitoring the situation, exploring the possibility of hijacking Liverpool’s transfer.

However, it seems they too rejected the chance to sign the 25-year-old.

The Mail report Aulas as saying:

In the beginning, when we thought about our summer transfer window and how to organise the future squad, we thought that he [Fekir] was practically gone.

That’s why we have been able to adapt things.

We spoke with Chelsea representatives, and they had no interest at all in him.

From then on, we realised we could change our plans [as he would stay].

A member of France’s World Cup winning squad, Fekir has made one appearance for Lyon so far this year, coming off the substitutes bench.
