Loftus-Cheek should start for England says Higginbotham

Former football-turned pundit Danny Higginbotham wants to see Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek start for England tonight.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Higginbotham explained that Loftus-Cheek could be the key to England unlocking their midfield.

I know he’s not playing week in, week out for Chelsea, but someone like Loftus-Cheek starting alongside the defensive midfielder. Then he is able to go through and is able to take the ball, because I don’t see there being much space behind the Swiss defence for England to take advantage with the pace that they’ve got.

Many are expecting Loftus-Cheek to start in what is set to be a heavily-rotated England side.

Gareth Southgate’s side face Switzerland tonight as they look to finish the first international break of the season on a high.

The Three Lions come into the game after an unfortunate 2-1 defeat at Wembley to Spain in the new UEFA Nations League.

Loftus-Cheek impressed at the World Cup during the summer as he showed his promise on the international stage.

However, he has failed to break into the team at Stamford Bridge under Maurizio Sarri so far this season, raising questions about his place in the England squad.
