Derby County boss Frank Lampard believes Mason Mount is ready for a call-up to the England senior squad after Gareth Southgate was pictured watching the youngster on Tuesday evening in the Rams’ game against Blackburn Rovers at Pride Park, the Daily Mail reports.
The 19-year-old impressed again for Derby on Tuesday night, hitting the crossbar with a 30-yard free kick.
Lampard reminisced on how Trevor Brooking was capped while playing in the Second Division for West Ham and says that playing Championship football should not hinder Mount from earning a senior call-up.
Mason Mount can do anything he wants, he is that good. That’s not to stay he will go in and be an England starter in their next game, as it’s Gareth Southgate’s choice.
But whatever level you put him in, because of his quality, work ethic and mentality – he wants to get better and better – he will do anything he wants to.
It’s my decision to play him every week and it will be Gareth’s decision, if and when, to pick him for the England team.

Championship players should be in the England team if they deserve it. This is a competitive league and most players, as we know at the World Cup for England, come through the Championship in one way shape or form.
I’m sure Gareth and Steve Holland are not discounting anybody for any reasons. You go and watch someone on merit and if they play well enough they’re in the squad. Those have always been the rules.
It never did Trevor Brooking any harm. I grew up watching West Ham win the FA Cup final when they were the old Second Division.
For Mason Mount, he is a great example of the loan system. People want to bemoan the loan system but sometimes I don’t think they know why.
Chelsea have a got a great young talent and part of his development is to come here. It helps us, it helps him, it helps Chelsea, and it is a perfect example of how it works well.

Mount already has four goals to his name this season and has started every Championship game for the Rams.
Mason was fantastic. It is how he has been playing for us every game. His free-kick was top class, his general play was creative, and his work-rate and passing were excellent. There is more to come from him. I think Gareth would have been impressed.
Jayden Bogle too. That’s not me shouting him for the England team, but his performance in the first half was incredible. There might be a sniff for Bogle to get into the younger teams I’m sure.
