Illness to rule Christensen out of Liverpool

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen is being considered a major doubt to face Liverpool on Saturday after coming down with an illness.

According to Goal, as cited on the Daily Star, Christensen threw up in the changing rooms at Anfield on Wednesday night and was unable to see out of the Carabao Cup clash.

The Danish defender, who was finally getting a chance to prove his worth to Maurizio Sarri, was forced off in the second half and was replaced by David Luiz.

It now appears that an illness was behind the substitution and could go some way to explaining the below-par performance from Christensen, who made a number of uncharacteristic mistakes at the back.

Christensen has seen game time hard to come by under Sarri, who has preferred a back two of David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger this season.

The news comes as the latest blow to the young defender, who would have been hoping to leave a lasting impression on Wednesday night.
