Ampadu can be a future captain for club and country

Ethan Ampadu has all the qualities to be a future captain for both his club and his country, according to Cledwyn Ashford.

Ashford, who is the education and welfare officer for some of Wales’ youth sides, believes that Ampadu could go onto to become one of the countries best players in the future.

He draws comparisons to Arsenals’s Aaron Ramsey and the late Gary Speed when talking to FC Cymru about the potential that the former Exeter City man possesses.

I’ve worked with people like the late Gary Speed, who was an outstanding player. I’ve worked with others who have come through the system, seen others develop, seen Aaron Ramsey at that age.

And for me Ethan is as good if not better because he has something quite special. He has an ability but also an attitude and I’m sure in the future, if he’s still there he’ll become a Chelsea captain and I’m sure he’ll become a Welsh captain. I expect great things of Ethan Ampadu.

Ampadu, who recently agreed a new long-term deal at Chelsea, has been on the verge of the first-team squad under Maurizio Sarri this season.

The Welsh international is earning rave reviews with every game he plays, both for club and country.

He was a regular during pre-season under Sarri and has often displayed the leadership qualities and the maturity of a potential captain, a role that he could well fill in the future.
