Sarri still searching for younger central defender

Maurizio Sarri remains keen to add a younger central defender to his ranks and could launch a move in the January or summer transfer window.

The London Evening Standard reports that Chelsea are working on a new contract for David Luiz, but are preparing for life without Gary Cahill, who is expected to move on in the near future.

The latter has struggled to break into the team under Sarri and has hinted he could be set for a move away from the club.

Sarri wanted to sign a young defender during the most recent summer transfer window and failed in a bid to sign Daniele Rugani from Juventus.

It looked certain that the young Italian, who worked with Sarri at Empoli, would be joining Chelsea, but after losing Mattia Caldara to Milan, the Old Lady refused to sell late in the window.

Sarri currently has Luiz, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Gary Cahill and Ethan Ampadu to call upon at the back.
