Fabregas still in Sarri’s plans despite Premier League absence

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri says midfielder Cesc Fabregas does still have a role to play with the club this season.

The Metro report that the Spaniard is yet to feature in the Premier League this season but is expected to start against Videoton in the Europa League tomorrow night.

Fabregas was injured at the start of the campaign, allowing summer-signing Jorginho a run of games in the starting XI.

It is a chance the Italian has taken extremely well, impressing with how quickly he has been able to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League.

Fabregas, 31, has only featured twice to date this season, once against PAOK in the Europa League and the other time being against Liverpool in last week’s Carabao Cup clash.

However, Sarri was positive when asked whether he could see Fabregas battling Jorginho for a place in the league team.

He said:

Yes I think so. I think he played very well in the last 30 minutes in Greece, and very well for 90 minutes in Liverpool.

He has to improve the physical condition, but I think that he is a great option in this position.

After tomorrow night’s clash against the Hungarian club the Blues face a trip to strugglers Southampton on Sunday.
