Journalist claims Golovin should have joined Chelsea

Aleksandr Golovin may have been better off joining Chelsea this summer after his poor start to life in Monaco it is being claimed.

Russian journalist Yaroslav Susov explains to L’Equipe that there are already concerns about the player’s move to Monaco.

This team has always been at the top of Ligue 1 and it was a good choice. We thought he was going to start strong. But Monaco is 18th, while Golovin has made good matches. So, we ask ourselves questions and we think that it might have been better in Chelsea.

Golovin was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea this summer after an impressive World Cup.

Maurizio Sarri was reportedly keen to bring the player to Stamford Bridge after missing out on his signature while at Napoli.

The Italian was keen to strengthen his midfielder during the transfer window but pursued a deal for Mateo Kovacic after missing out on Golovin.

However, it was Monaco he joined after playing a key role in Russia’s success at the World Cup.

Golovin has featured three times for Monaco in Ligue 1 this season but has failed to impress, with the club sitting 18th in the table, with one win in eight games.
