Rudiger withdraws from Germany squad with injury

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has withdrawn from the Germany international squad after picking up an injury.

As reported on Goal, the centre-back played the full 90 minutes for Chelsea in the convincing 3-0 win against Southampton on Sunday.

Rudiger has established himself as the key defender for the Blues under Maurizio Sarri and he will miss Germany’s UEFA Nations League matches against Netherlands and France.

Rudiger made some crucial blocks and challenges to preserve Chelsea’s clean sheet against the Saints and Sarri will be hoping that the problem isn’t too serious.

The exact nature of the injury hasn’t yet been made clear but Rudiger is expected to have pulled out as a precaution to ensure that any existing problem doesn’t get any worse during the international break.
