Andreas Christensen struggling with lack of opportunity at Stamford Bridge

Andreas Christensen made 27 appearances in a blue shirt last year, but has yet to feature in the Premier League this season.

Not preferred by new boss Maurizio Sarri, the Danish defender did however downplay fears of a January exit.

David Luiz and Antonio Rüdiger have taken over the centre-back positions this year, as Sarri moves Chelsea on from their three-at-the-back formation that gave Christensen so many opportunities last year.

The Daily Mail quote the 22-year-old as saying:

Right now, it’s not a good season for me, but I have to find some way to get back on. How? I do not know, but it’s up to myself to figure out.

But right now it looks hard. We have good results and we play super good football, which only makes it harder. It’s hard for me personally, but for the team it looks great.

Chelsea are famed for sending talent out on loan, but when the idea of a temporary move was suggested to Christensen he wasn’t particularly forthcoming:

I do not know. I have not thought so, so I do not want to comment on that.

Christensen has started in both of Chelsea’s Europa League fixtures, and the League Cup match against Liverpool. Even if he isn’t in the starting XI at the weekend, it would be hard to say Christensen doesn’t have a role in Sarri’s squad.
