City could rival Chelsea for Sancho with buy-back clause

Chelsea are likely to face competition from Manchester City in the race to sign Jadon Sancho after it was revealed the Premier League champions do have the first refusal on the player.

Manchester Evening News reports that City inserted a buy-back clause when they sold the winger to Borussia Dortmund back in 2017.

Sancho left City for Germany in a £8 million deal but City were keen to ensure that they put themselves at the front of the queue should they wish to re-sign him in the future.

City will have the first refusal on the player should an official bid be lodged, with a host of clubs now being linked with a move for the player. One report has claimed that he could become a £100 million player.

If Pep Guardiola’s side do not look to pursue a deal to re-sign Sancho, they could still benefit from him moving on.

While they inserted a buy-back option, they also added in a 15 per cent sell-on clause.

City were willing to pay the player £30,000 a week to stay at the club, but he decided to take his career to Dortmund, where he is now impressing in the German top flight.
