Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has confirmed that he is due to sign a new contract with the club in the coming days.
Speaking to Spanish reporters, as cited by Vaishali Bhardwaj, Alonso explains that the club have offered him an extension on his current deal.
I am very calm and very happy at Chelsea and the club must also be happy with me because, although I still have two years left on my contract, they have offered me an extension. We are talking about it and the talks to renew are already advanced. If everything goes well, I think I will renew before the end of this month – in the coming days.
Alonso has two years remaining on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, but the Blues are keen to secure his long-term future.
The Spaniard has been linked with moves away from Chelsea in recent months.
Both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona were reportedly interested in signing the player over the summer, but Chelsea had no intention of selling.
Despite being a surprise signing when he first arrived from Fiorentina, Alonso has gone on to cement himself as a key player for the club.
He played a key role in Chelsea’s title success under Antonio Conte and looks set to be an important part of Maurizio Sarri’s plans going forward.
