Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has hit out at Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri, claiming that he is only interested in making money.
As reported on Goal, Sarri left the Italian Serie A club for Premier League side Chelsea during the summer and he has settled into English football effortlessly.
The Blues are level on points at the top of the Premier League table with Liverpool and Manchester City and are still unbeaten in all competitions.
De Laurentiis has previously hit out at Sarri for not winning any piece of silverware during his time in charge of Napoli. This time, the owner said:
Sarri? I thought I had met a coach who would stay at Napoli for a long time. At a certain point, it became a question linked exclusively to money.
Suddenly, it was established by the media that his contract must be adjusted. So what is the value of an agreement just signed? We had already gone from 700 thousand euros to a million and a half.
I also once heard him say that for his next contract, he wanted to get rich. Sarri’s declarations of love for the city? I believed it, but then I wondered: ‘What if he was using me as a bank?’
Napoli appointed Carlo Ancelotti as Sarri’s successor, even before the manager had left to join Chelsea. It’s fair to say, De Laurentiis still has a sour taste in his mouth after losing Sarri.
