Chelsea target Piatek to cost €40m in January

Chelsea are reportedly keen to recruit Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek following his impressive start to the season.

The Poland international has enjoyed an exceptional start to the new campaign, firing in nine goals for Genoa in Serie A and also contributing with a further four in just one Coppa Italia outing.

Piatek’s impressive early-season form appears to have piqued the interest of several prestigious clubs in European football, with Chelsea among the potential suitors to have been named.

However, it seems interested will be forced to pay a premium price if they are to lure the 23-year-old away from Genoa any time soon, with the Italian club demanding a sum of €40 million for their talisman, according to Calciomercato.

Bayern Munich are also named as a potential destination for Piatek, but the likes of Liverpool have also been linked in recent times, as he continues to establish himself as one of Serie A’s most in-form players.

Chelsea were keen to recruit a new striker in the summer but were forced to miss out after Gonzalo Higuain joined AC Milan. Whether or not Maurizio Sarri will dip into the market to add depth to his attacking ranks in January remains to be seen.
