Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has admitted he “misses” former striker Gonzalo Higuaín, who the Blues tried to bring to Stamford Bridge in the summer, the Evening Standard report.
Sarri worked with the Argentine for one season at Napoli and was desperate to bring the 30-year-old to the Premier League over the summer.
However, a move never materialised, but Higuaín did get a move, leaving Italian giants Juventus for AC Milan on an initial loan deal which is set to be made permanent next summer.
Sarri has rotated his striking options during the Blues’ impressive start to the season, with Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata both struggling to find the back of the net regularly.
And talking to the Italian media recently, Sarri was full of praise for Higuaín, who has began his stint with Milan in fine form, scoring six times in seven appearances so far.
When asked about Chelsea’s attempts to sign the forward, Sarri said:
Whatever response I give will be considered wrong and put words into my mouth.
All I can say is that I feel Gonzalo left Napoli too soon. If he had stayed for another season, I think we could’ve been in a condition to win. Higuaín was a part of the fantastic mechanism we created, we understood each other so well.
It was perfect synchronicity and the regrets will probably stick with us. I miss Higuaín a great deal. I miss him because he’ll keep scoring goals until the day he dies. He is a goal machine, a systematic and automatic jackpot.
