Daniele Rugani was heavily linked with Chelsea over the summer.

The 24-year-old had been rumoured to be unsettled at Juventus, and keen to move away in order to secure regular first team football.

Faced with high quality competition in Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, Mehdi Benatia, and Andrea Barzagli, game time won’t come easily for the more inexperienced Rugani.

However, the Empoli youth product never wanted to leave Turin, or at least in the words of his agent Davide Torchia.

Quoted by the Metro, Torchia said:

Chelsea made a very strong push to negotiate, Juve evaluated it, but the player never asked to leave,

His objective was to earn his place in the starting XI. Juve believed in the player and we’ll discuss it during the contract renewal talks.

Rugani had worked with Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri at Empoli, and despite not landing the defender in the summer, it appears as though the deal isn’t dead quite yet.
