Former Chelsea manager Ruud Gullit has accused Eden Hazard and Willian of deliberately not passing to Alvaro Morata.
The Dutchman said that the Chelsea winger “don’t trust” Morata in front of goal and are choosing to instead go it alone and bypass the Spanish striker.
Morata has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League in his first two seasons scoring only 13 league goals in 39 games, with only three of those goals coming in this campaign, and he struggled once again against Manchester United yesterday and was substituted off in the 79th minute.
Speaking on beINSports Gullit said:
His team-mates don’t come into any positions where they create anything for him.
The worst part is you can see Willian and Hazard always dribble inside because they don’t trust him.
But also, when the crosses are in, I think there was a moment in the first half where you asked: “where is Morata”, he wasn’t there. So, they don’t trust him.”
Morata’s form has led to a plethora of rumours about replacement strikers with the main one being that Maurizio Sarri will return to Serie A, where he managed until the summer, to sign either Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi or A.C Milan Patrick Cutrone but Sarri insists that he is happy with Morata saying:
I don’t think about the market. I continue to focus just on the team.
But in the last few months I think Morata has played better and in the last three days I have seen him in training (play) very, very well.
