Mateo Kovacic has urged Chelsea to avoid a Liverpool-style slip up in the Europa League this week.
The Blues are currently in Belarus for their Group L clash with BATE Borisov and a positive result would near enough seal Chelsea’s place at the top of their group.
Liverpool’s defeat to Red Star on Tuesday night was one of the shock results from this week’s round of Champions League games, with many claiming Jurgen Klopp’s men took their foot off the gas against the Serbian outfit.
Speaking to the media ahead of the game, as reported by the Telegraph, Kovacic told Chelsea to view the game as a timely reminder.
I watched the game against Liverpool and they struggled a lot. In Belgrade the atmosphere is tough and it was difficult for Liverpool, like it will be here.
These are the games where you need to concentrate a lot because if you don’t, you lose. We have to be prepared and we don’t want what happened to Liverpool to happen to us.
The Blues are still yet to taste defeat this season under Maurizio Sarri in a competitive fixture.
Chelsea also remain among the favourites to win the Europa League this season and are still competing on all four fronts with the festive period approaching.
