Sarri reveals that Morata has been rested for BATE clash

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has revealed why Alvaro Morata has not been taken with the travelling party to play BATE.

Sarri’s side travel to face BATE on Thursday in the Europa League and Morata has not been named in the squad.

Morata has scored five goals in 10 Premier League appearances this season, including two in a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Speaking to West London Sport, Sarri said this:

He played for three matches in a row. I thought it was better for him to stay at Cobham and rest and have only training.

French international Olivier Giroud is expected to start up front in place of Morata.

Giroud has failed to score in 11 appearances this season for Chelsea and will be hoping to open his account this week.

Morata is likely to return to the Chelsea squad when they host Everton in the Premier League this weekend.
