Everton boss Silva hails Jorginho following Chelsea draw

Everton manager Marco Silva has singled out Chelsea star Jorginho as the man who stifled his side in their 0-0 draw against the Blues on Sunday.

Speaking after the Toffees’ stalemate at Stamford Bridge, Silva discussed the influence of Jorginho and alluded to how he prevented his side from penetrating central areas.

Silva spoke about how important he felt it was that Richarlison was tasked with occupying Jorginho, with the midfielder known to pull the strings in Maurizio Sarri’s system at Chelsea.

As quoted by Football London, the Everton manager lauded Jorginho as “fantastic” and said:

Jorginho, for me, is one of Chelsea’s key players too. Some moments we blocked him, sometimes he created problems like he normally does as he is a fantastic player.

At some moments we blocked him. In others, we could not. We blocked Jorginho fantastically with Richarlison in the first moment. We did really well, in my opinion, he’s one of the keys in Maurizio’s system this season. He controlled all the match with the ball for Chelsea. We did really well.

Jorginho did not enjoy his most impressive outing in Chelsea colours in the 0-0 draw and was perhaps fortunate not to have received a sending off.

The Italian international’s reckless tackle in the first half was met by a yellow card, much to the frustration of Silva and his Everton side.

Nevertheless, Jorginho remained on the field but was unable to inspire his side to a victory in the Premier League as Everton turned in a resilient defensive display.
