Sarri had one-to-one meetings with players after loss to Spurs

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has revealed that he held one-to-one meetings with his players following the 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, according to a report on the Daily Mail.

The blues fell to defeat at Wembley Stadium against their London rivals in their latest top-flight fixture, which was their first defeat of the season.

Sarri hit out at his players and claimed that they lacked enough motivation and determination against Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who carved through the Blues multiple times with considerable ease.

The manager admitted that he demanded answers from his players individually after the defeat.

He said:

It’s very difficult for them, I think, to tell me why. Very difficult. Somebody told me that, maybe, the international break was a problem. A problem to be immediately ready at 100 per cent.

I talk to them player by player. I have a meeting of five or 10 minutes with the individuals. But, as I said before, we lost one match after three and a half months. We have to understand why, especially from the mental point of view.

It’s very difficult for me to understand why. We played without determination in such an important match. If you don’t have determination, you have no motivation. If you have no motivation, maybe you don’t have clear targets in your mind. I wanted to understand this.

The Blues face PAOK on Thursday night in the Europa League and Sarri will be hoping for a positive reaction from his players.

matchday.
