Manchester United have had a £91m offer for Chelsea target Kalidou Koulibaly rejected by Napoli.
According to Calcio Mercato, via The BBC, Manchester United made a record offer for the defender, which Napoli have turned down.
The current transfer record for a defender stands at £75m, after Liverpool signed Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton in January 2018.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for Koulibaly, after he played under Maurizio Sarri for Napoli last season.
The Senegal international has built a reputation as one of the best defenders in Europe, with a host of clubs interested in signing him.
However, Napoli have no plans to let him go and were not tempted by United’s £91m offer.
Chelsea have struggled at the back at times this season and are thought to be in the market for a new central defender.
