Alba claims Morata would be welcomed at Barcelona

Barcelona defender Jordi Alba has hailed Chelsea forward Álvaro Morata’s ability, claiming he would be welcomed at Camp Nou.

The 26-year old striker’s long-term future has been in doubt at Chelsea following an inconsistent 12 months. Morata began last season well after signing from Real Madrid, but failed to keep up momentum beyond the New Year and has struggled to recapture his early form in Blue.

While his future at Chelsea is questionable, many European clubs have reportedly expressed their interest in his services, with recent rumour surprising many by suggesting Barcelona could be interest.

With injury prone Luis Suarez on the wrong side of 30, Barça are believed to be in the market for a long-term successor, and although a transfer to Madrid’s bitter rivals is unlikely, it isn’t considered impossible.

And Spain international teammate and Barcelona full-back Jordi Alba has explained that he would welcome Morata addition to the squad with open arms, if the clubs did agree to do a deal.

Talking to AS, Alba said:

Morata is a player that I appreciate a lot, he has been a top player for many years.

At the end, it’s the club’s [decision] if they want to sign him or not, as with any other player.

If the rumours are true, he would be very welcome, as all the new players.

A knee injury may be enough to keep Morata from departing Stamford Bridge just yet, but it will be interesting to see how Maurizio Sarri views his long-term future at the club.
