Chelsea may be forced to close part of their Stamford Bridge stadium by UEFA for Europa League games if their fans are found guilty of anti-semitic chanting, talkSPORT reports.
UEFA are to decide on Friday whether or not to open a disciplinary case against the club after fans were heard chanting a derogatory song about Tottenham Hotspur during their 2-2 draw against MOL Vidi in Budapest on Thursday night. The song contained anti-semitic language.
If found guilty then Chelsea may have to close part of their stadium for the rest of their Europa League games this season, with UEFA regulations stating:
If supporters take part in any behaviour which ‘insults the human dignity of a person or group of persons on whatever grounds, including skin colour, race, religion or ethnic origin’ then the ‘club responsible is punished with a minimum of a partial stadium closure.
Chelsea have condemned the chants from their supporters and the situation is now in the hands of UEFA.
