Since joining Chelsea from Napoli in the summer of 2018, Italian midfielder Jorginho has been called ‘a revelation’ at Stamford Bridge. But how well has Jorginho settled at Chelsea?
Sitting deepest in manager Maurizio Sarri’s midfield trio the Italian international has been integral to Chelsea’s success this year. Despite his single goal this year – which came at the first game of the season against Huddersfield – the midfielder has been central to the Blues’s attacks.
Leading the Premier League with completed passes at 1361 passes the 26-year-old is simply untouchable in regards to his passing. A Rolls-Royce of a midfielder Jorginho seems to glide around the pitch effortlessly with the midfield maestro central to Sarri’s success this season.
The £50 million man, however, continues to divide opinion with some Chelsea fans raving about Jorginho’s performances and others criticizing the Premier League newcomer.

If Jorginho has a good game we’d have a good game. Otherwise we are in for spurs 2.0

Jorginho is good at defending, Fab will never win a tackle

Why we have Jorginho again? Hes slow, good stats against small teams , but crappy pass to our ace #CHEMCI

But despite his technical prowess make no mistake the former Napoli man isn’t one to shy away from a challenge. With 95 recoveries, 96 duels and 22 tackles so far this year the Italian is not just a luxury player.
However, the arrival of Jorginho hasn’t all been plain sailing so far. For one in his 96 duels, Jorginho has only won 36 of them, at only 34% duel success whilst the midfield general does get involved in the frontlines he often comes out second best.
Not to mention the arrival of the Brazilian born dynamo has seen Chelsea’s French workhorse in N’golo Kante shifted further forward in the Blues’s midfield three. A role that the World Cup winner is obviously still adapting to, and a role that isn’t getting the best out of the former Leicester man.
One of the first names on the teamsheet Jorginho is currently indispensable in manager Maurizio Sarri’s mind, whether he wins over his critics come seasons end is yet to be seen.
