Derby interested in Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu

Derby are interested in signing Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu on loan this month.

That’s according to the Mirror‘s James Nursey, who did play down a potential move coming to fruition, however.

Chelsea are believed to be reluctant to allow Ampadu to leave, with Maurizio Sarri naming him on the substitutes’ bench in Sunday’s 1-0 win at Crystal Palace.

The Blues are believed to be “unwilling” to loan him out in January, seeing him as an important squad member between now and the end of the season.

Frank Lampard will hope to convince his former club to change their stance, though, as he looks to strengthen Derby’s promotion bid.

The Chelsea legend has already taken Mason Mount from Stamford Bridge in the summer, which has been a huge success, and Ampadu would be another excellent temporary signing.

The 18-year-old centre-back, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, has made nine first team appearances for the Blues to date.
