Atletico Madrid join the race for Morata signing

Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Alvaro Morata from Chelsea this month, according to Goal.

The struggling striker is expected to leave Stamford Bridge in January, having flattered to deceive under Maurizio Sarri.

Sevilla have looked like the favourites to acquire the 26-year-old’s signature, but Atletico look set to do battle with their La Liga rivals.

Diego Simeone’s side are only interested in a loan move, however, which may be a potential stumbling block.

Morata’s representatives will speak with Atletico over the next 48 hours, as they look to agree a deal.

The striker spent time in the club’s academy between 2005 and 2007, before eventually making 95 appearances for bitter rivals Real Madrid during two separate spells.

A return to Madrid is thought to appeal to Morata, who was born in the Spanish capital.

Simeone sees him as someone who can improve his team’s attack, with former Chelsea man Diego Costa currently struggling with injury problems.
