Cagliari rule out January exit for Barella

Cagliari director Mario Passetti has ruled out a January exit for Chelsea transfer target Nicolo Barella.

Passetti has made it clear that Barella will be going nowhere this month and will remain a Cagliari player until the end of the season, at least.

The Mirror claim that Chelsea were looking to sign Barella as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas, who signed for Ligue 1 side AS Monaco earlier this month.

However, Passetti has now ended any Chelsea hope of that happening with this latest statement.

As quoted by the Mirror, Passetti said this:

We continue to talk about him, we do interviews and issue statements, but evidently we’re not being clear enough: we reiterate that [Barella] will stay for at least for the next six months.

After that, we’ll see what happens in the summer.

We have big ambitions and Nicolo gives 1000 percent in every training session and he’s happy to be at Cagliari. Selling him isn’t one of our objectives.

The 21-year-old has been capped four times by Italy and has been a regular in the midfield for Cagliari this season in the Serie A.
