David Luiz hits back at Jorginho critics

Chelsea centre-back David Luiz has urged fans to get behind team-mate Jorginho, who has come under fire recently.

As reported by The Standard, the Italian has been on the end of some derogatory comments regarding recent performances, as the midfielder hit over 2000 passes without getting an assist.

Luiz described Jorginho as “a great player” and tipped him to flourish at Chelsea under Maurizio Sarri, who previously managed him at Napoli. He said:

It’s because he plays for Chelsea. When you play for Chelsea, a big team, you have to understand everyone is going to criticise you. But when things go well, everybody claps their hands for you.

Jorginho settled in well at Stamford Bridge after his £57m move from Napoli, receiving plaudits from both the media and supporters about his intelligent performances.

But after seeing a dip in form more recently, it is time for the 27-year-old to start living up to his price tag again, with Thursday’s EFL Cup second leg against Tottenham a big opportunity for him.

He is set to feature in the game at Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea look to overturn a 1-0 deficit to reach the final at Wembley.
