Willian confirms Higuain passed up the opportunity to take the penalty

Willian has revealed that he offered debutant Gonzalo Higuain the chance to take the penalty during the first half against Sheffield Wednesday.

The pair were seen discussing who should take the penalty prior to Willian converting from the spot.

On first glance, it appeared that Willian had denied the striker of the opportunity to open his account for the Blues, but in fact, he himself passed up the chance.

Willian, clearly keen for the striker to get up and running for Chelsea, told Chelsea TV, as cited on the Metro, after the game that he wanted Higuain to take the spot kick.

No I want to give him the ball. Yes. I wanted him to score the first goal today. But it will come soon.

It would be the Brazilian that stepped up and he confidently converted, beating Kieran Westwood to give Chelsea the lead.

Higuain was making his first start for the Blues in the FA Cup game and Chelsea fans will be hoping that he can find the back of the net sooner rather than later.
