Drinkwater could be given Chelsea lifeline

Danny Drinkwater may well have a future at Stamford Bridge after all.

Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri has hinted that the midfielder could be brought back in from the cold if he is still with the club when the January window ends.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, as reported by Goal’s Nizaar Kinsella, Sarri explained that Drinkwater could yet be given a chance this season.

Not at the moment, but I want to wait until the end of the market. Then I’ll try with every player.

Drinkwater has not yet featured for the Blues this season after Sarri explained that the midfielder was not part of his plans back in the summer.

With huge wages and Chelsea’s high asking price, the club have been unable to find a buyer for the midfielder and he has remained in the shadows at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues themselves are also keen to add another midfielder to their ranks, but after missing out on Leandro Paredes and a deal for Nicolo Barella still up in the air, Drinkwater could have a role to play this season.
