Bernd Leno believes Hudson-Odoi can become a ‘big player’

Callum Hudson-Odoi has the ability to develop into a ‘big player’, according to Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

InsideFutbol cite an interview with German outlet Sport Bild, in which Leno spoke about Bayern Munich target Hudson-Odoi in a very positive light.

The 18-year-old has burst into Maurizio Sarri’s first-team squad this season, having only made his professional debut this time last year in an FA Cup tie against Newcastle United.

His three top-flight appearances this term have all come from the substitutes bench, but the winger has particularly impressed in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

The Chelsea academy product is now entering the last 18 months of his Stamford Bridge contract and is reportedly keen to get more regular game time.

German Champions Bayern have had a number of bids knocked back for the England U19 international, resulting in the player handing in a transfer request and refusing to sign a new deal.

Leno, a German international between the sticks, revealed he has been impressed with what he has seen of the young talent.

He said:

We played against Chelsea in pre-season, in addition to the league.  Hudson-Odoi was on the pitch and was really strong. He is a very interesting player. Hudson-Odoi can definitely explode and become a big player.
