Wakefield set for Coventry move

Charlie Wakefield will leave Chelsea before the transfer window shuts this evening.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke claims the versatile defender will join Coventry City, as he looks to build a career away from Stamford Bridge.

With his Blues deal running out in the summer, bosses at the West London outfit have looked kindly upon his request to fly the nest earlier than was expected.

After a spell on loan at Stevenage last season, it became clear that the 20-year-old was not going to be breaking into the starting XI under Maurizio Sarri.

The sprawling youth system of Chelsea looks set to lose another name then, with the Worthing-native heading north to join up with the Sky Blues, who currently sit 11th in League One.

Wakefield won the FA Youth Cup once, and UEFA Youth League twice with Chelsea’s accomplished youngsters.
