Willian and Chelsea hurtling for contract stand-off

Chelsea seem to be no strangers to problems extending contracts, and Willian is the next player to have an issue with the deal presented to him.

With his current contract set to expire at the conclusion of the 2019/20 season, the Blues are presently attempting to give the forward a one-year extension.

The 30-year-old, however, wants more than that.

A UOL report (translated by Sport Witness) states that the Brazilian instead wants three more years added to his deal, evidently happy with his surroundings in West London.

Chelsea might be justified in their caution of offering a contract of such length however, with a player’s physical regression notoriously hard to predict – see Case Study A: Cesc Fabregas.

French champions Paris Saint-Germain made a deadline day bid for Willian which ultimately failed, although it seems as though the player himself may have turned down such a move.
