Chelsea legend and Maurizio Sarri’s right-hand man Gianfranco Zola could be given the job until the end of the season.
According to reports in Italy from Sport Mediaset, Zola could stay on in an interim basis should Sarri be sacked before the end of the season.
The report claims that Zola could be a short-term fix for Chelsea before searching for a new manager at the end of the season.
Zola will be no stranger to the responsibilities, he has taken up media duty throughout Sarri’s time at the club, filling in during cup games and Europa League meetings.
The former Chelsea attacker has not enjoyed the best managerial career but has impressed as a number two alongside Sarri, providing a useful connection to both the club and the management staff.
Chelsea are no strangers to interim managers, with Roberto Di Matteo famously leading the club to European glory before landing the job permanently.
