Lingard and Martial to miss FA Cup tie against Chelsea
Manchester United will be without forward duo Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard when they take on Chelsea in the FA Cup on Monday.
The Blues will host United in the fifth round of the competition, and will be buoyed to hear the injury update provided by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Lingard was substitute shortly before half-time against Paris Saint-Germain in the Red Devils’ Champions League tie earlier this week, while Martial was withdrawn at the interval due to an issue that had plagued him earlier in the half.
And speaking ahead of Monday’s game, Solskjaer confirmed that he expected the duo to be unavailable for a couple of weeks, saying:
I think they will be out for two to three weeks looking at it now.
As well as the FA Cup game, the duo will also miss a crucial Premier League game against Liverpool next Sunday, while their inclusion in the reverse fixture against PSG could also be doubtful.
Chelsea will be buoyed by the news, given their own inconsistent performances in the Premier League, having lost 6-0 to United’s city rivals Manchester City last time out.
United have played well since Solskjaer replaced José Mourinho at the helm, and Maurizio Sarri will be hoping that his side can take advantage of United’s injury woes and get their season back on track.
